ABORIGINAL STUDIES 10

The course is based on perspectives and worldviews of Aboriginal peoples. It includes the
study of traditions and history of Aboriginal peoples in Canada, and particularly in Alberta. Student learning outcomes provide opportunities to examine such topics as governmental structures, literature, the arts and the sciences.
The four themes in Aboriginal Studies 10 are:
• Origin and Settlement Patterns
• Aboriginal Worldviews
• Political and Economic
Organization
• Aboriginal Symbolism and
Expression.

Prereq: 50% in Aboriginal studies 10
The course focuses on indigenous people from a Canadian and Alberta perspective. It includes the study of policies, legislation, conflict, and cultural change.

Military Studies 15, 25, 35

MILITARY STUDIES 15

Canada's military heritage is an important aspect of out Canadian identity and our school community. Canada has played a major role in global affairs starting in World War I which continues to today. In Military Studies, students will critically deal with world problems
and conflicts, assess and evaluate military solutions and gain a greater understanding of the
Canadian and global context in world affairs.

MILITARY STUDIES 25

Prereq: Military Studies 15
This is the course that follows Military Studies 15. It focuses on world conflict from ancient times to 1850. Some of the topics include the study of warfare in Greece, Rome, medieval Europe, the Crusades, the Mongols, the Hundred Year's War and concluding with the Gunpowder Revolution.

In Military Studies 15-25-35 Alberta students will inquire into, explore, assess, and evaluate the origins of the military. Throughout Military Studies 15-25-35 students will
grapple critically with real world problems/conflicts, assess and evaluate military solutions and in the process hone their communication, leadership and decision-making capabilities as informed, responsible and competent Canadians in an increasingly conflict fraught and
complex global context.
