Welcome to Sturgeon Public Schools' Off Campus Education and Work Experience program, where students have the opportunity to expand their horizons and gain valuable skills while still in high school. Our program encompasses a variety of pathways, including the Dual Credit Program, Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), and Work Experience, all aimed at providing students with unique learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom setting.
In partnership with esteemed institutions like Olds College, Lakeland College, NAIT, Northern Lake College, and Norquest College, Sturgeon Public Schools offers the Dual Credit Program. This program allows our students to earn both high school credits and post-secondary education credits concurrently. Through live online instruction and self-paced learning, students have the chance to learn from college instructors.
Participating in post-secondary courses while still in high school offers numerous advantages. It builds students' confidence and motivation, facilitating a smooth transition from high school to post-secondary education. Dual Credit instruction also allows students to explore potential post-secondary programs within the familiar high school environment, helping them in their career development and fostering a lifelong passion for learning.
For students interested in pursuing a career in the trades, the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is an excellent choice. RAP empowers high school students to embark on apprenticeship training as early as Grade 10, earning credits towards both a high school diploma and an apprenticeship program simultaneously.
With a wide array of more than 50 trades and occupations to choose from, students are matched with employers to gain invaluable insights into their chosen trade. This hands-on experience allows students to explore their interests, confirm their career path, and equips them with practical skills, giving them a competitive edge upon graduation.
Our Work Experience Program is designed for high school students eager to dive into a career path they're passionate about. This for-credit program empowers students to gain a head start by acquiring valuable skills and hands-on training.
Participants in the Work Experience program are employed as part of a structured school program, under the cooperative supervision of both a teacher and an employer. This unique experience allows students to develop marketable job skills while earning high school credits.
Even students with part-time jobs can benefit from this program, as they can earn work experience credits through their on-the-job learning.
Embracing our division's deep-rooted rural heritage, we take immense pride in introducing the Green Certificate program. This program is tailored to nurture the aspirations of students who share a passion for the dynamic realm of agricultural business.
As our students embark on this educational adventure, they acquire not only the theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills and attitudes necessary for success in the agricultural industry. By actively engaging with experienced farm professionals, our students learn directly from those who have honed their expertise through years of hands-on work.
At Sturgeon Public Schools, Off Campus Education and Work Experience pave the way for students to explore their passions, gain practical skills, and prepare for a successful future. Join us on this educational journey and embark on a path to personal and professional growth.
